Preschool The three-year-old preschool program at The Jenkins School encompasses specific aspects of learning including emotional, social and physical. The process of learning in this classroom takes place through indoor and outdoor exploratory play, hands-on activities, and also a structured circle time. The program is oriented around a theme based, hands-on curriculum that includes developmentally appropriate centers and interactive activities relative to the current theme. The students explore a wide variety of topics, some of which include community helpers, dinosaurs, senses, farm animals, arctic animals, transportation and much more! Above all, the children in the preschool classroom practice their social skills each and every day, which in the end allows them to develop quality friendships that could last a lifetime!
Multi Age Preschool Program (MAP) The MAP class is a multi-age, theme-based program where students are encouraged to learn from one another and engage in meaningful play experiences. Through the use of learning centers students have the opportunity to participate in artistic expression, math and language activities, and science experiments. A structured circle time allows the students to come together to share ideas, listen to stories, sing songs, and play games. During exploratory play students may choose from a variety of activities such as dramatic play, construction with building materials and educational computer games. An emphasis is placed upon the development of social skills and a healthy self-esteem. The students are encouraged to show respect for all living things and appreciate the uniqueness of others. MAP is for Children Ages 2 1⁄2 to 5 years old The Multi Age Preschool Program is designed to meet the needs of students and their parents who are working or attending college classes. The school is open from 7:00 am until 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Students' schedules may be flexible within that time frame. Morning and afternoon snacks are provided. Fees are determined by the amount of time the student spends in the school. Students must be toilet trained.
Pre-Kindergarten The four-year-old pre-kindergarten curriculum is theme-based, hands-on and age appropriate. The students become engaged in a two-week thematic study through children‘s literature, music, art, science, and cooking activities. In addition, the students develop various skills through indoor and outdoor play. Finally, centers are used to enhance math and literacy skills while providing time for teachers to work with individual students.
Kindergarten The Jenkins Kindergarten is a place where learning and fun go hand in hand. Students in the Jenkins Kindergarten participate in reading, journaling, exploratory play, mathematics, as well as many science and social studies concepts. These skills are taught in exciting and innovative ways; from hatching ducklings, creating 100th day of school T-shirts to singing and dancing the names of the oceans. The Jenkins Kindergarten is a leader in creatively teaching students the skills they need to know while having fun at the same time.
After School Programs Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Enrichment Program are enrichment programs that include instructional themes that integrate math, science, literacy, social studies, physcial education and creative arts. During each day the students will be engaged in structured and interactive activities that require them to work collaboratively. Along with structured academic activities, the students will have many opportunities to exercise their gross motor skills through indoor and outdoor recess. These programs are half days on Monday through Friday. Sessions are scheduled from 12:00 to 5:30 p.m.
Summer Camp Programs Outside of the academic school year, Jenkins also opens its doors to 3-13 year-olds for a summer of enriching activities.
